Rezumat

Prezentul articol nu își propune să prezinte neapărat o biografie a lui Coandă; o face în măsura în care autorul a considerat important să readucă în mintea cititorului unele repere interesante ale vieții acestuia .
Scopul articolului îl reprezintă însă câteva dintre ipostazele activității britanice a lui Coandă și modul în care a fost și este receptat savantul român în Reg a tul Unit. La o extremă, Charles Harvard Gibbs Smith (1909 1981), liderul absolut al dertractorilor lui Coandă, iar la cealaltă o instituție prestigioasă: Royal Aeronautical Society
(RAeS), care l a apreciat și primit pe inventator ca Honorary Fellow, în 19 71. Am vrut să prezint și unele aspecte legate de locul unde a locuit familia Coandă, în perioada britanică a vieții și activității acestuia, cu speranța (probabil, deșartă!) că ar putea fi cumpărată de statul român și transformată într o Casă Coandă ””, o casă românească într o țară care încă ne cunoaște prea puțin. Iar semicentenarul morții sale este o ocazie cum nu
se poate mai potrivită.

Abstract

This a rticle does not necessarily aim to present a biography of Coand a ; he does it to the extent that the author considered it important to bring back to the mind of the reader some interesting milestones of his life. The purpose of the article, however, is some of the scenarios of Coand a 's British activity and the way in
which the Romanian scholar was and is received in the United Kingdom . At one extreme, Charles Harvard Gibbs Smith (1909 1981), the absolute leader of Coand a 's detractors, and at the other a pres tigious institution: the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), which appreciated and received the inventor as an Honorary Fellow in 1971.
I also wanted to present some aspects related to the place where the Coand a family lived, during the British period of i ts life and activity, with the hope (probably vain!) that it could be bought by the Romanian state and transformed into a Coand a House ””, a Romanian house in a country that still knows us too And the semicentenary of his death is a more appropriate occasion.
