Abstract: The new instruments for assessment of non-electrical explosion protected equipment comprise a series of specific assessment procedures and the associated test procedures. The series of the above mentioned procedures had been carried out based upon the harmonized European standards adopted in Romania, that include the SR EN 13463 standard series regarding “Non electrical equipment for use in potentially explosive atmospheres”. The series of assessment procedures had been carried out and implemented within the product certification body in INSEMEX-OEC, notified at Brussels for the ATEX Directive. Also, the testing procedures had been elaborated and implemented within the Laboratory for Tests in Explosive Atmospheres – LIEx. The new instruments for assessment of non-electrical equipment may be applied to the mining equipment classified in Group I, Categories M1 and M2. Up to the present, INSEMEX Petrosani as an institute for safety in mines and explosion protection has developed new testing and assessment facilities for the following types of protection: - Protection by flow-restricting enclosure (fr); - Protection by flame-proof enclosure (d); -Protection by constructional safety (c).

Keywords: non-electrical equipment, assessment, certification, explosion, explosive atmosphere.
