Abstract: The facility location problem is a planning issue already addressed by Operational Research techniques. It refers to establishing the number of one particular type of facilities and their location, according to certain given conditions and restrictions. The ship transport of Dobrogea is carried out through the maritime port of Constanta and its two satellite ports: Mangalia and Midia, passing across three river ports: Murfatlar, Medgidia and Cernavoda. Taking into consideration the geographical position of these ports, their importance and their share in the transit of goods inwards Europe, there has always been an interest in finding the best location for different intermediate storages. Through this paper we will get an insight into this issue, presenting a genetic algorithm used to solve the problem presented above, with the main objective of minimizing distribution costs

Keywords: Genetic algorithm, location analysis, intermediate storage, restrictions
