Rezumat: Cerinţele crescânde privind poluarea au revigorat tehnicile de realizare a structurilor și componentelor de masă minimă. Cunoscute sub termenul generic de lightweight design, acestea preocupă în ultima perioadă din ce în ce mai multe industrii, printre care se numără și cea automotivă. În articol se prezintă o scurtă evoluţie a conceptului de lightweight în aviaţie, împreună cu tehnici de realizare a acestuia și cele mai noi tendinţe în domeniu. Se prezintă de asemenea lecţii învăţate din diferite programe de ușurare structurală, împreună cu concluzii și recomandări.

Abstract: The new requirements regarding pollution had revived the methods of making light structures and components. Being known under the name of lightweight design, these came on the spot on many industries, namely the automotive. Within the paper a short evolution of the aerospace lightweight, together with methods to obtain it and the newest trends are presented. Lessons learned, together with conclusions and reccomendations are also presented.
