Abstract: One considers the oscillations of large amplitude of a pendulum made of a rigid sphere suspended by a cylindrical bar articulated in a fixed point. The motion is two-dimensional and takes place in in a viscous fluid of variable density, initial at rest. The sphere is launched from large angular amplitudes at different initial speeds. In order to determine the viscous forces acting on sphere and cylinder one uses the experimental curves for the drag coefficients as functions of Reynolds number calculated with the local velocity of the mass centers. One determines the positions and the velocities at various regimes, as time functions
