ŞTIINŢA ASCUNSĂ ÎN ARTĂ

Autor/autori: Conf. univ. dr. Ion CODRESCU

Abstract: Science and art are seen as two different fields, even though both of them have many common elements, and in a sense „complete” each other. The paper Science Hidden in Art presents some examples from the history of architecture and painting which show that these creations have been possible due to a real knowledge of both science and art. Without scientific knowledge, we couldn’t have the Stonehenge megalithic ensemble, the Great Pyramid, the Parthenon, the gothic cathedrals and many other treasures of world architecture. Villa Rotonda, by Andrea Palladio, has not only a perfect symmetry of surfaces and proportion, thanks to the scientific knowledge of architecture, but it also gives a musical harmony of spatial perception when the viewer watches it. Also, the masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci, Jan Vermeer and Antonio Canaletto are rooted in a profound knowledge of perspective, of using lens and a camera obscura. The Golden Ratio has been used by mathematicians, philosophers, composers and artists throughout time. The Golden Ratio is omnipresent in art and nature, and it is an important element which makes a bridge between different periods of time: from Antiquity to the present day

Keywords: science, art, scientific drawing, golden ratio, rhythm.
